Major reshuffle in Delhi Police as crime branch gets 1st woman chief

A fortnight before the 75th Republic Day, Delhi lieutenant governor VK Saxena's office on Friday announced a major reshuffle of the Delhi Police top brass.

As part of the reshuffle, 27 officers of the special commissioner of police (special CP) and deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank-from the Indian Police Service and the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS) were assigned new roles.
In a first, a woman - 1996batch IPS officer Shalini Singh has been appointed the new crime branch chief. The current special CP (crime branch), Ravindra Singh Yadav (1995 batch), has replaced 1990-batch officer Deependra Pathak as special CP (law and order, zone-1).
Zone-l comprises central, eastern and northern police ranges, while zone-2 comprises southern, New Delhi, and western ranges.
Senior police officers aware of the matter said the reshuffle was a routine exercise due since the culmination of the G20 Summit in September 2023. However, they flagged the timing of the order ahead of the Republic Day celebrations when most preparations are already complete and the rehearsals are in full swing.
