6 killed in rain-related incidents across Maha; Telangana hit too

At least six people were killed in rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours as heavy rains lashed Maharashtra and Telangana, officials aware of the matter said on Saturday.

The Maharashtra administration had reported six deaths on Friday and Saturday, including two in suburban Mumbai due to house collapse, one in Yavatmal due to lightning, and three in Nanded due to wall collapse and drowning.

‘Two members of a family died and two others sustained injuries ina landslide amid heavy rains in Vikhroli area of Mumbai in Maharashtra. The incident took place around 2.39am when the soil from a nearby hillock collapsed on a hut, officials said. Four people, all belonging to the same family, were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared two of them dead. The deceased were identified as Shalu Mishra (19) and Suresh Mishra (50).

Downpour in the city began around lam and continued into the early hours of the day, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas of the western and eastern suburbs, officials said.
