12 missing after boat capsizes

At least 12 people, including six children heading to school, went missing after a boat they were travelling in capsized in the Bagmati river in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, officials said, as the district administration launched frantic rescue operations

The boat was carrying 30 people, including children aged 15-16 years when it overturned near the Madhurpatti ghat, officials and locals aware of the matter said.

"A group of people from Bhatgama village, including schoolchildren, were crossing the river on a boat when it capsized at around 9.45am. The children were on their way to attend Balaur upgraded high school," a resident of the area, Jairam Kumar said.
