But a new study, published recently in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, challenges that very notion – encouraging seniors to rethink their fitness boundaries.

Traditionally, it was believed that with age comes a drop in muscle protein synthesis, fewer satellite cells to repair tissue, and an overall slower recovery. This led to the assumption that older adults are more vulnerable to exercise-induced muscle damage. However, the study's findings flipped the script.
