3.5 million names likely to be deleted in draft roll: ECI

PATNA: Around 3.5 million voters in Bihar, who have either died or shifted from their previous addresses, or have their names in two places, would now be deleted from the electoral rolls that are being updated under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), according to the Election Commission of India (ECI) officials.

In a press note issued by the ECI, it has been said that out of 78.9 million voters enlisted in the voter rolls, 1.59 % of the voters (1.260 million) have been found deceased whereas around 2.2% (1.737 million) voters have shifted permanently to other places, while another 0.73 % ( 576 million) voters have their names in two places (more than one assembly constituency).
