The Capital on Saturday recorded an average air quality index (AQI) of 361, plunging its air further into the “very poor” zone, as pollution strengthened its chokehold over the city.

The Capital woke up to another morning of thick haze and shallow fog, which briefly lifted with sunlight but returned by evening as air quality remained “very poor”.

The AQI was already in the dirtier end of the very poor category in the morning, with Delhi recording a reading of 355 at 8am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The AQI at India Gate was 322.

In the Palam area, the AQI recorded was 320, while in Dhaula Kuan AQI reported was 269.
