Govt Orders Delimitation Survey of 11k Panchayats

The Survey Was Announced Amid Government's Efforts to Implement Simultaneous Elections in the State
JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government has ordered a fresh delimitation survey of the state's 11,954 panchayats, officials familiar with the matter said on Sunday.
The order, issued on Saturday, said that the survey would begin on January 20 and will conclude by April 15. Officials said that the state government ordered the survey following a cabinet meeting on December 28.
"As per the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, all district collectors are hereby being ordered to conduct the survey for the delimitation/reformation of the existing panchayats," the order issued by the rural development and panchayati raj department said. "The collectors are also requested to seek suggestions from the locals within a month before starting the survey for the government's consideration."
The state currently has 11,954 panchayats and 365 panchayat samitis. The directive comes weeks after the state cabinet revealed its plans to reform panchayats with a population of more than 200,000.
