27-Year-Old Dies in Accident While Trying to Escape Stalkers in Bengal

A 27-year-old woman died at Kanksa in West Burdwan district of West Bengal after her car crashed at high speed when its driver sped up to escape five men in an SUV, police said on Monday.

The woman, identified as Sutandra Chatterjee, was a resident of Chandannagar in Hooghly district. She was travelling to Gaya in Bihar with four others, including her driver Rajdeo Sharma, who alleged that the men in the SUV gestured lewdly at Chatterjee in the course of the chase, which lasted around 5km. The accident happened at around 12.30am on Monday. Sharma and the others suffered only minor injuries.
"Chatterjee was a professional dancer. She was going to Gaya to perform. We are hunting for Bablu Yadav, the owner of the SUV," Prasun Khan, inspector-in-charge of Kanksa police station said.
