The Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted an inquiry committee to probe the selection process of the J&K football team for the 79th National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy 2025-26, officials aware of the matter said on Thursday.

- HT Correspondent

The probe was ordered following a disproportionate number of players from Jammu in the final team selected for the tournament, which will be held in Assam in January 2026, leading toa row.

A total of 74 boys were shortlisted for the team from Jammu region and 24 from Kashmir, the officials said. However, the final squad of 20 had 19 members from Kashmir and only 1 from Jammu, they added.
