Phones used to be exciting. Now, each new model feels like the same idea rehashed over and over. Why isn’t fun part of the specs anymore?
In Kazuo Ishiguro’s 2021 novel, Klara and the Sun, the humanoid robots refer to phones as “oblongs”.
Phones have been feeling very oblong-y and uninspiring lately. A Reddit user on the thread r/UnpopularOpinion commented: “I can’t believe we're all just roaming around with these flat bricks in our hands.”
A decade-and-a-half ago, everyone waited breathlessly for iPhone launches and the friendly fire that would ensue when Samsung tried to one-up their rival. When Samsung introduced curved screen displays in 2013, it felt like the future had arrived. No frill was left unfrilled: Phones came in limited-edition colours, camera upgrades really made a difference, we learnt to swipe-text, open a drawer of apps, use our face to unlock the home screen.

Time for Indian boxers to show strength at home
World boxing is going through a churn. The new international governing body for the sport, World Boxing, has devised a new calendar, format, and ranking system. Weight classes have been reduced from 13 to 10. Boxers around the world, who until last year were competing under the International Boxing Association's (IBA) banner, are adapting to these changes.

Never-ending wait for Bihar’s transformation
Bihar has long functioned asa paradox, a transparent enigma. Its ideas market never loses its sheen, and its caste codes refuse to retire. This duality is not incidental. It is woven into Bihar's political evolution. The state’s public sphere has historically allowed sharp ideological contest-ation, yet its political structures return, almost faithfully, to familiar anchors of caste arithmetic, welfarist governance, and a deep suspicion of unregulated economic mobility. The 2025 election recommits Bihar to this older vocabulary, even as its demographic realities press urgently for a new one.

Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan's fun face-off makes this an enjoyable sequel
Right off the bat, R Madhavan still looks too suave to play a father on screen to a 29-year-old in De De Pyaar De 2 (DDPD 2). The man, at 55, still has the Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein charm intact!

Out of the brew
Hold up. There might be cheese or chilli in your drink. Mixologists are creating cocktails with Maggi, kasundi, puchka and more. This isn’t your dad’s Whisky Sour or your Mums Cosmo. Can they draw in the sober-curious?
