Waqf Bill: JD(U) confirms it stands with government

JD(U) has clarified that it supports the Waqf Amendment Bill despite opposition from its MLC Ghulam Gaus.

JD(U) leaders familiar with the development said most of the concerns raised by the party in the Bill had been addressed.

"A delegation of the Muslim community had met CM Nitish Kumar with their concerns regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill after the matter was referred to the JPC. Nitish Kumar had asked party representatives to raise these concerns in the JPC and party representative Dileshwar Kamait did so. Surely, these suggestions must have been taken into consideration," said JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan.

Gaus, whose meeting with the RJD national president on Monday has created furore, strongly opposed the Waqf Bill, calling it an attack on religious matters and accusing the Centre of repeatedly targeting minorities with unfair policies.
