Two Former CMs Canvass for Party Candidates in Haridwar

The Haridwar mayoral seat will witness a two-corner fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, with BJP's Kiran Jaissal and Congress's Amresh Devi being pitched against each other.

HARIDWAR: However, the contest between the two parties appears to have taken the shape of a prestige battle between two former chief ministers, Harish Rawat of the Congress and Trivendra Singh Rawat of the BJP.

Both Harish Rawat, a former Haridwar parliamentarian, and Trivendra Singh Rawat, sitting Haridwar MP, are chairing political meetings and taking part in road shows seeking votes for their party candidates, Amresh Devi and Kiran Jaissal respectively.

According to the BJP district office bearers, the ticket of Jaissal, who is being backed by city legislator Madan Kaushik, was finalized only after the go-ahead of Trivendra Singh Rawat, in his capacity of being a local parliamentarian.

So, now Trivendra Singh Rawat himself is attending and keeping stock of Jaissal's election campaign to ensure the party's first electoral victory during his tenure.
