Jharkhand jewellery heist planned from Bihar jail, finds police probe

Police investigations into the daring dacoity at Aastha jewellers on Chas Road in Jharkhand's Bokaro on June 23 have pointed to a dangerous trend of criminals operating from Bihar jails and getting their jobs done through local henchmen, a senior police officer familiar with the matter said.

"The incident was the result of meticulous planning by a gang of Patna and Motihari based criminals. The plan, hatched in Beur Central Jail, led by under trial prisoner Awinash Srivastava alias Amit, culminated in masked and armed robbers looting gold ornaments worth ₹4 crore," said another officer, who was also part of the probe team.

Bihar STF had on June 25 arrested six criminals involved in the incident and recovered looted articles -- 23 gold rings, six mangalsutras, a gold bracelet, car, three cell phones and ₹13,820 in cash -- from them.
