IGIMS principal's letter: Contentious order rolled back 'on request' following Bihar health minister's intervention

Following a rap by health minister Mangal Pandey, the state-funded Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) on Tuesday relieved 'on request' a senior doctor of his additional responsibility as faculty in-charge of the medical college — a position that had become the bone of contention after its principal recently challenged it, alleging 'humiliation and torture' at workplace, besides raising safety concerns, and threatening to commit suicide, said officials.

"Prof (Dr) Avanish Kumar, head of department (HoD) anatomy, is relieved of additional charge of Faculty In-charge of Medical College with immediate effect, on his request," said the order issued by Dr Bindey Kumar, director of IGIMS, and seen by the Hindustan Times.

Earlier in the day, Dr Avanish requested the director to relieve him of the additional charge of faculty in-charge as he wanted to focus on the development of the department of anatomy and the upcoming cadaveric workshops.
