HC Hears Plea Against Live-In Provisions in Uniform Civil Code in U'Khand

The Uttarakhand high court on Monday directed the state government and Centre to file its response to a writ petition filed by a 23-year-old man challenging specific provisions of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), especially mandatory registration of live-in relationships, and listed the matter for hearing on April 1, along with other petitions related to UCC.

DEHRADUN:
The petition alleged that many provisions in UCC related to live-in relationships "were violative of the right to privacy... infringe upon the fundamental right to a dignified life as enshrined under Article 21 of the Constitution of India."
The division bench of Chief Justice G Narender and Justice Alok Mahra gave these directions while hearing the petition filed by Jai Tripathi, a resident of Dehradun.
