Bihar Govt Plans 6 New Railway Projects

The Bihar government has demanded from the Railway Board to approve and implement six new railway projects in the state, including a new rail bridge over the river Ganges between Ara and Chapra and the introduction of a circular train service on the Budh Circuit Rail Corridor.

The demand for new projects was made by state chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena in a letter to the Railway Board chairman recently. In the letter, Meena asked for the initiation of various important railway projects in the state, in keeping with the state’s need for expanding the rail network.

Buttressing his argument, Meena stated that Bihar’s population density is 1106/2011 (1388/2024) per person per sq km, which is 289.5% higher than the national average, whereas the population density per lakh per railway track in the state is 5.31 km, compared to the national average of 9.81 km.

Stating that a notable share of the state’s population travels to other regions for employment, education, and healthcare, creating a further burden on rail infrastructure, the CS said that the rail projects being demanded would bring the state to a national standard.
