Man Who Set Self on Fire Near Parliament Succumbs to Injuries

Two days after a 26-year-old man set himself on fire near the Parliament complex, he succumbed to his injuries, police officers aware of the case said on Friday.
NEW DELHI:
The man—a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh—had earlier told Delhi Police investigators that he took the extreme step after the UP police registered three cases against him in his hometown.
However, the deceased's family has alleged that the man—who worked as a laborer—was harassed by four people in Baghpat, was the victim of casteist slurs, and claimed that the UP police filed a case against him under pressure from the aforementioned people.
The man's father on Friday lodged a complaint at the Parliament Street police station against the four people.
