KOLKATA: A second-year student ofthe Indian Institute of Manage- ‘ment Calcutta (IIM-C), accused of drugging and raping a 24-year-old woman inside the institute's hotel, was granted bail by a Kolkata court evenas the complainant did not turn up to record her statement before a magistrate or to undertake the medico-legal test on Saturday, people aware of the mattersaid.

Theaccused’s counsel Subrata Sardar said that the court granted bail to Paramanand Mahaveer ‘Toppannawar ona personal bond of 50,000. “The woman, who alleged that she was raped, never turned up for the medico-legal test which is crucial in such cases. She also didn’t record her statement before a magistrate under section 183 of the BNSS,” he said.
