Delay in action led to spike in cough syrup deaths: Officials

A prompt action by a block-level health official in Parasia on the initial reports by angan-wadi workers related to deaths of children due to renal failure after allegedly consuming now-banned Coldrif cough syrup could have prevented several deaths, health officials said on Tuesday.
At least 19 children, including 13 from the Parasia block in Chhindwara district, have died in a month after consuming the contaminated cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh.
