Politics Not Full-Time Job, Says Yogi

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday defended the controversial demolitions initiated by his government even as he dismissed speculation of differences within the Bharatiya Janata Party and said politics was not a full-time occupation for him.

In an interview to news agency PTI, Adityanath also attacked the Opposition and said that leaders who were fanning language differences were on the decline.

When asked if he considers the so-called "bulldozer model" as one of his achievements, Adityanath said it was not an achievement but a need. "Look, this is not an achievement, this was a need here (Uttar Pradesh) and whatever we felt was necessary regarding that need. Even today if there is any encroachment anywhere, then a bulldozer is used to clear it. So, the bulldozer can provide infrastructure and remove encroachment and I think we have taught people to use it in a better way," he said.
