Markets slide on biggest FPI selling in over 2 months

The benchmark indices fell for the third straight day on selling by overseas investors, pausing a rebound after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire to end the four-day military conflict.

MUMBAI:

On Tuesday, the Nifty 50 index fell 1.05% or 261.55 points to 24,683.9, while the Sensex slipped 1.06% to end at 81,186.44. This was the sharpest decline for both in five days.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) net sold shares worth ₹10,016 crore in the cash segment, the highest in over two months. On February 28, they had sold shares worth ₹12,026 crore. FPIs sold index futures worth ₹2,784 crore on Tuesday. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs), however, net bought shares worth ₹6,738.39 crore.
