Leaders across political divide mourn Krishna

NEW DELHI: Political leaders across party lines paid tribute to former external affairs minister SM Krishna, who died after a prolonged illness on Tuesday morning, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling the former Karnataka chief minister a "remarkable leader".
Krishna died at his residence early on Tuesday. The 92-year-old was the 16th chief minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004. He also served as the governor of Maharashtra before he became the external affairs minister during the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government from 2009 to 2012.
In a post on X, the PM said that Krishna was "admired by people of all walks of life". "He always worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. He is fondly remembered for his tenure as Karnataka's Chief Minister, particularly for his focus on infrastructural development. Shri SM Krishna Ji was also a prolific reader and thinker," he added.
