HC slams UP police for ‘illegal’ detention of interfaith couple

The Allahabad high court on Saturday pulled up the Uttar Pradesh Police for the “illegal detention” of an interfaith couple, and ordered their release, ruling that the couple could not be detained by police due to social tensions arising from their marriage.
After the high court's direction, police on Saturday produced the couple, who were taken into custody after they left the court on October 15, before a bench of justices Salil Kumar Rai and Divesh Chandra Samant.
