India is holding technical discussions with several countries including the European Union and New Zealand to boost exports of organic products, aiming to grow this to $2 billion a year by 2030 even as India’s organic product standards have been recognized by Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Australia, officials familiar with the matter said.

Ongoing free trade agreement (FTA) talks between India and the EU are nearing completion with negotiators from the 27-nation bloc expected to discuss remaining issues with their Indian counterparts in New Delhi from Monday, two officials said requesting anonymity.

India’s agricultural exports crossed $48.8 billion in 2023-24, but contribution of organic products in that was only about 1%. In order to boost India’s organic goods export from the level of $665 million in 2024-25, the country has already signed several bilateral mutual recognition agreements (MRAs) and is negotiating more, the officials added.
