NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Thursday questioned whether the use of non-injurious smoke canisters during the Parliament security breach could qualify as an act of terror under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), noting that such canisters are widely available in the market and commonly used during Holi celebrations.
The observation came during a hearing on the bail plea of Neelam Azad, one of the four accused in the December 13, 2023 breach. Azad, 37, was arrested along with Sagar Sharma, Manoranjan D, and Amol Shinde for allegedly setting alight smoke canisters and raising slogans near Parliament.
