Maha Legislators Move Breach of Privilege Notice Against Kamra

Legislators from the ruling Shiv Sena and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday initiated proceedings for breach of privilege motion against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, over his controversial jibe at Shiv Sena chief and deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde.

The comedian has been booked by Mumbai police under sections 353(1) (criminal intimidation), 353(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 356(2) (criminal defamation) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials said on Wednesday that the police have issued a second summons to Kamra, asking him to appear for clarification over his joke allegedly referring to Shinde as a "gaddar" (traitor) in his video, "Naya Bharat", on YouTube.
