DEHRADUN: After the authorities sealed nine madrasas across the district of Dehradun, citing non-registration with the state madrasa board or the education department, the Muslim outfits have alleged that the drive aimed at suppression of the minority community.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Aaqib Qureshi, vice president of the Muslim Sewa Sangathan, said, "Madrasas and mosques are being sealed in an unconstitutional manner in Uttarakhand. We have held protests through various means and met the competent officials. The officials had assured the Muslim community that the sealing process would be stopped during the holy month of Ramzan, but it is still being carried out. There is anger among the Muslim community. The reason given by the authorities for sealing the mosque was that the map was not being approved by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority. We want to know how many religious places are there in the state whose map is approved; if not, then why such a selective action."
