Cartoonist gets interim relief from arrest over PM, RSS caricatures
Hindustan Times Lucknow
|July 16, 2025
The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim protection to Indore-based cartoonist Hemant Malviya, apprehending arrest over his social media post depicting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an undignified manner.
While expressing serious reservations on his post, a bench of justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Aravind Kumar, posted the matter to August, permitting Malviya to submit an affidavit expressing genuine apology for a post he shared on Facebook in 2021. While Malviya offered to delete the objectionable post, the bench refused to pass an order in the face of objection by the Madhya Pradesh police which is investigating a complaint filed in May this year by lawyer and RSS worker Vinay Joshi.
