Anyone's game as UP take on Jharkhand in toss-less match
Hindustan Times Lucknow
|February 06, 2025
There will be little home advantage for hosts and last year's runners-up Uttar Pradesh when they take on a spirited Jharkhand in their four-day quarterfinal match of the Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy, beginning Monday in Kanpur, for it will be a toss-less game.
LUCKNOW: Instead, the visitors will decide if they want to bat or bowl first.
In the new rule, which came into force in the current domestic season, a new point system has also been introduced to ensure a balance. Under it, points will be awarded for batting and bowling performances in the first innings, in addition to points for the first innings lead or an outright win.
Both Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, which have batter-dominated sides, will focus on securing a first innings lead as they play on the 22-yard black strip of the Green Park Stadium. They would also like to go with at least three spinners as the surface in Kanpur tends to support batters and spinners.
