J&K chief minister expresses regret over lack of clarity being exhibited by the coalition's leadership

- HT Correspondent

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that the INDIA bloc should better be wound up if it was formed only for the parliamentary elections last year.

Responding to media queries in Jammu, Abdullah said there was no timeframe attached to the INDIA bloc. He expressed regrets over lack of clarity being exhibited by its leadership.

"The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, and other parties have to take the call on how they effectively compete against the BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party] in Delhi. After the assembly elections, these parties should convene a meeting of all the alliance members. If this alliance (INDIA bloc) was only for the parliamentary elections then it should be wound up and we will work separately. But if it is meant for the assembly elections as well, we will have to sit together and work collectively," he said.

The chief minister was responding to a question about an Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader's statement that the INDIA bloc was meant only for the Lok Sabha elections.

"As far as I remember, no time limit was set for this. The issue is that no meeting of the INDIA bloc is being convened," he said.

"Whether this alliance will continue is also unclear. Perhaps, the members of the INDIA bloc will be called for a meeting after the Delhi elections, and clarity would emerge," he said.

Where is everyone?

We've been searching for decades, but haven't found so much as a microbe in space yet. Could it be that we're early; that life simply has not evolved yet in the neighbourhood? Are we doing it all wrong? Is there a bustling universe of sentient beings out there, waiting for us to catch on? Humans are now beginning to build technology that could make the difference in our quest for alien life. We have a growing understanding of what to look for. We're getting better at sending probes to nearby planets, which could tell us more about where and how to search. What might we find? Why does it matter? Take a look

MF Husain: Man and myth, art and artist

M F Husain is undoubtedly India's best known and perhaps most highly regarded modern artist. As an editorial in this newspaper put it last week, he is \"arguably the most inventive artist of Indian modernism\". This is why it's not just sad but upsetting that an MF Husain museum will open next month in Doha and not in the country of his birth.
