In the highest level of contact between India and Afghanistan since Taliban came to power in 2021, external affairs minister S Jaishankar had his first interaction with Taliban acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi over a phone call on Thursday.

Jaishankar said he appreciates Afghanistan's condemnation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and his counterpart's firm rejection of recent attempts to create distrust between the two countries.
"Good conversation with acting Afghan foreign minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi this evening. Deeply appreciate his condemnation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack," Jaishankar said in a social media post.
