Sole bread earners among 20 staffers killed

A night of celebration at a nightclub in North Goa turned into one of sudden tragedy on Sunday, sparking nationwide grief.

But, in Fatehpur, a tiny hamlet in the north east of Jharkhand, the loss is especially personal.

Of the 25 killed in the overnight blaze at Birch By Romeo Lane in Arprora, three people belong to Fatehpur, including two brothers who were working in the main kitchen located in the nightclub’s basement.

Nandlal, who belongs to the same village and works as a security guard in Assagao, said the family not only lost their sole bread earner, but it also left the fate of the victims’ young children uncertain.
