AN ANTI-CYCLONIC CIRCULATION AT THE UPPER ATMOSPHERIC LEVELS HAS PREVENTED THE MONSOON FROM REACHING DELHI AND NCR CITIES
GURUGRAM: A 31-year-old civil engineer working for a private firm in the city was arrested from Hisar for allegedly mowing down two law students on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway service lane near Hero Honda Chowk on Tuesday, leaving one of them dead and another injured, police said on Thursday.
They identified the man as Mohit Kumar, originally from Nurpur Bhora Kalan in Pataudi. He lived in a paying guest accommodation in Gurugram's Sector 14 and worked for a private firm. Police said he had allegedly fallen asleep at the wheel while returning home from work which led to the accident at about 3.30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Gurugram police, public relations officer, Sandeep Kumar said that the man was arrested on Wednesday. "He had fled to a close relative's place in Hisar after the accident. The Skoda Rapid car with which he had mowed down the two students was also recovered. It was registered in Hisar," he said.
Police officials identified the deceased as Harsh Singhal, a resident of Om Vihar in Sector 23. He was a second-year law student in a college in the city. The injured was Abhishek Kumar, 23, a resident of Shanti Nagar in Sector 11.
Based on the complaint of Singhal's father Santosh Kumar, an FIR was registered against the driver under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sector 37 police station on Tuesday.
