Gukesh's 1st event as world champion

It's been a bunch of frenetic weeks of felicitations for the newest world champion, D Gukesh.
BENGALURU: The 18-year-old Indian will be picking up his Khel Ratna award on Friday morning before he flies to the Dutch coastal village of Wijk Aan Zee for the Tata Steel Chess event, his first appearance in a tournament as world champion.
Last year, Gukesh had a heartbreaking finish in Wijk Aan Zee. He lost in the final tie-break to eventual champion, Wei Yi, the first Chinese winner since the tournament's inception in 1938. This time, Gukesh enters as the world champion—the player the rest of the field will want a piece of for bragging rights.
