7 Killed, 40 Injured as Stage Collapse Triggers Stampede

|January 29, 2025
A makeshift platform collapsed at a religious event in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in a stampede that claimed seven lives.
LUCKNOW: The cause for the collapse of the platform erected for the event, dedicated to Jain deity Adinath, wasn't immediately known, but the incident brought back memories of last year's stampede at Hathras, also in Uttar Pradesh, where 121 people died.
Senior administration and police authorities confirmed that seven people died and 40, including police personnel, were injured in Tuesday's incident. They said the collapse caused chaos and panic at the site and several devotees were reportedly injured after being trapped under the collapsed structure and in the subsequent stampede.
