The Supreme Court on Friday sought the response of the Centre and Election Commission on a petition challenging the blanket denial of voting rights to persons lodged in prisons who are either undertrials or pretrial prisoners yet to be convicted.
The petition referred to section 62(5) of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951 (RPA) which deals with the right to vote and goes on to deny voting rights to all incarcerated persons. The petition argued that the court should lay down certain guid
