DJB begins pipeline overhaul after HC rap over contaminated water

After being pulled up by the Delhi high court for supplying contaminated drinking water, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has begun replacing decades-old pipelines in several east Delhi localities.

The areas include Yojna Vihar, Jagriti Enclave, Shanti Mohalla, Jhilmil Industrial Area, Dilshad Garden, and IP Extension.

This overhaul follows repeated complaints from residents and judicial rebuke over sewage-mixed water reaching households. Officials said the problem stems from Delhi's ageing water infrastructure, large parts of which are vulnerable to leakages and contamination.

Over the past month, tenders for pipeline replacement have been floated in more than 70 localities across the city.
