5 of 38 convicts get life term in’I8 riots case

A court in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday sentenced five convicts to life imprisonment on charges of murder, and 33 others to seven years in prison on charges including arson, damaging public property, and attempted murder in connection with their involvement in the December 2018 communal violence that led to the murder of a police officer and a 20-year-old local youth.
“The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) Gopal Ji had found the individuals guilty on Wednesday and delivered the sentences on Friday,” Special Public Prosecutor Yashpal Singh Raghav said.
The five individuals who were sentenced to life imprisonment were Prashant Nat, David, Rahul, Johnny and Lokendra Mama, Raghav said.
On December 3, 2018, a communal violence broke out in the Chingrawathi village under Syana police station limits of Bulandshahr district over allegation of cow slaughter in a neighbouring village.
