2 killed, six missing as rains trigger landslide in Chamoli

Two people were killed, five rescued alive, six missing, and 20 others injured after heavy rain triggered mudslides, landslides, and flooding in four villages of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand on Thursday. The affected villages are Kuntari Lagaphali, Kuntari Lagasarpani, Sera, and Dhurma.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and revenue departments rushed to the spot and carried out search and rescue operations.
“Thirty-three houses were completely damaged due to the cloudburst and heavy debris flow. Shops and cowsheds were also destroyed. Around 20 people have been injured and several people are still missing. More than 200 people have been affected by the disaster. Rescue operations are underway to evacuate those trapped in their houses,” CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said.
He added that some of the injured have been admitted to local hospitals, while those in critical condition, including a child with severe head injuries, are being airlifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh.
