Monster has returned for its third season, this time turning the spotlight on serial killer Ed Gein, whose crimes inspired some of cinema's most enduring horror stories.
Charlie Hunnam leads the cast as Ed, with Laurie Metcalf playing his domineering mother Augusta. Set in 1950s rural Wisconsin, this season attempts to go beyond the sensational headlines to explore society's fascination with horror.
While the series traces Ed's upbringing and gruesome crimes that later inspired Psycho (1960) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), it's also a deep dive into his disturbed psyche and the consequences of isolation, painting him as a figure who is at the same time horrifying and tragic.
