The continuing arrests of fishermen from the southern districts of Tamil Nadu by the Sri Lankan Navy, who have accused them of violating the international maritime boundary and fishing illegally in their waters, has become another point of contention between the central and state governments.

CHENNAI:

The ruling DMK has criticised what they perceive as the negligence of the BJP-led central government, claiming it has led to the arrests by the Sri Lankan Navy. In response, the DMK has rallied to support the fishing communities in the Ramanathapuram, Thirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts, organising large-scale protests.

On Sunday, MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi inaugurated a significant protest against the central government's inaction in Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram district.
