BENGALURU: Tensions rose in Honnavar taluk in Uttara Kannada district after reports emerged of a pregnant cow being slaughtered by alleged miscreants in a forested area within the Salkod Gram Panchayat limits.

Police said that though the owner of the cow, Krishna Achari, has not filed a police complaint, an investigation into the matter has been initiated. Multiple teams have been formed under Bhatkal deputy superintendent of police to track down the accused.

District superintendent of police, Narayana M said that preliminary investigations suggest human involvement rather than wild animals in the incident. "We are pursuing leads indicating movements toward Shivamogga. Individuals with prior records of cattle theft and slaughter are being questioned," he stated. He further assured that the investigation was being closely monitored, expressing confidence in a swift resolution.
