IMD Issues Red Alert for Districts in K'taka, Kerala

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued red alerts for five districts in Kerala—Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram—as well as for the Dakshina Kannada district in coastal Karnataka.
MANGALURU/THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued red alerts for five districts in Kerala—Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram—as well as for the Dakshina Kannada district in coastal Karnataka.
In Kerala, the uprooting of trees, inundation, or washing away of roads and damage to houses were reported from several districts across the state. Trees falling were mainly reported in high-range areas of northern districts, local people said.
Following high tidal waves and sea erosion accompanied by rains and winds, many houses were damaged in the coastal hamlets of Vettukadu and Perumathura in the Thiruvananthapuram district, they added.
