HC suspends jail term of ex-MLA in '19 murder case

The Kerala high court on Wednesday suspended the punishment awarded to former CPI(M) MLA KV Kunhiraman and three others in the case of murder of two Youth Congress activists at Periya in Kasaragod district in 2019.
KOCHI:
The division bench of justices PB Suresh Kumar and Jobin Sebastian suspended the five-year imprisonment sentence of Kunhiraman, K Manikandan, Raghavan Velutholi and AV Bhaskaran on their appeal against the conviction by the Ernakulam Special CBI court. All of them are members of CPI(M).
The special CBI court had awarded double life terms to 10 other accused for involvement in the murders of Kripesh (19) and Sarath Lal (24), two Youth Congress activists, in Periye in Kasaragod in 2019 due to political rivalry.
Kunhiraman and the three others, who were granted relief by the HC, were found guilty of taking an accused from a police vehicle following the crime.
