HC sets aside order against award to Carnatic singer TM Krishna

The Supreme Court on Friday refused the urgent listing of a plea against a Madras high court decision allowing the Music Academy in Chennai to present an award instituted in the name of MS Subbulakshmi to Carnatic singer TM Krishna, hours after the HC set aside an interim injunction barring the academy from conferring the award.
NEW DELHI/CHENNAI:
Shrinivasan, grandson of late Carnatic icon Subbulakshmi, has objected to giving the award to Krishna saying that his grandmother's will had "prohibited" any memorials in her name. But while the Madras HC disagreed with the award being interpreted as a "memorial", the SC refused urgent hearing in the case. The award is scheduled to be conferred during the academy's 98th annual conference Sunday.
