Govt begins 2nd phase of land acquisition for construction of Andhra's capital city

As construction in the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati, is at full swing following the relaunch of the works by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 2, the state government has begun the exercise of acquiring another 45,000 acres of land from farmers in the surrounding villages under the second phase of the land pooling system (LPS) for future needs of the capital.

HYDERABAD:

In the first phase of LPS for Amaravati in 2015, the then TDP government acquired 34,385 acres of land from 28,526 farmers in 29 villages, according to official figures by the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA).

On Monday, the APCRDA, which is overseeing the construction of the capital city, approved acquisition of around 45,000 acres of land for the second phase of Amaravati capital city project.

State municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana said at a meeting chaired by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, "The APCRDA proposed to acquire the additional land under the same land pooling policy adopted in the first phase."
