30 unsung heroes among 113 to receive Padma Shri awards

The Union government on Saturday announced 113 awardees for the Padma Shri, the country's fourth highest civilian award, including 30 unsung heroes for their exemplary achievements in diverse fields ranging from folk music, yoga to sports.
PATIALA: A bulletproof glass shield, along with hit squads and armoured quick response teams (QRTs) of Punjab police, will be put in place for chief minister Bhagwant Mann's Republic Day event at Polo ground in Patiala district on Sunday, officials aware of the matter said on Saturday.
Around 3,100 police personnel will be deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the event. Security measures have already been tightened across Patiala with CCTV-mounted police service vans keeping a vigil around the clock.
"All the security measures are in place for the smooth conduct of the Republic Day function," said deputy inspector general (DIG), Patiala Range, Mandeep Sindhu.
The development comes in the backdrop of banned pro-Khalistan organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) issuing threats regarding the Republic Day event.
Mann's venue for the event was previously changed from Faridkot to Patiala over the threats by SFJ. It issued a warning deterring the youth from attending the event.
