All three of them belong to the Kuki community, they added.

Officers said that the incident took place around 8.30 am, when a group of men allegedly opened fire on farmers working in paddy fields near the village.

Village guards retaliated, triggering an exchange of fire that lasted nearly four hours, said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
