India, EU eye early closure of FTA negotiations

The two-day deliberations on bilateral free trade negotiations between senior officials of India and the European Union concluded on Tuesday with Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal and EU’s commissioner for trade and economic security Maro Seféovié providing “strategic guidance” to the negotiating teams in order to conclude the agreement at the earliest.

During their engagements, Goyal and Seféovié carried out “detailed deliberations” across key areas of the proposed agreement, the commerce ministry said ina statement on Tuesday. “Both sides took note of the steady progress achieved across various negotiating tracks and agreed on the need to sustain the current momentum through continued exchanges,” it said.
