Ruling on second home ban sensible for future of town

DEVELOPERS trying to overturn a ban on second home owners in a South Hams town have lost their appeal.

The ruling will come as a sigh of relief for the district and Salcombe Town Council along with communities up and down South Devon where second home and holiday lets have become a thorny issue pushing up house prices and leaving communities dormant in winter months.
Salcombe is well known as a second home hotspot. Referred to as Chelsea-on-Sea nearly half of dwellings in the town are second homes or holiday lets.
But that is no good for the community and businesses that have to function year round.
